Fershop | Photography Workshop | Personal

Every year I try to set new goals for myself and for my business. This year my goal was to attend at least one workshop from a photographer I admire but who has a style completely different than my own.

I’ve been a fan of Fer Juaristi for a while now and after begging unabashedly online for him to bring his Fershop to San Francisco, you can imagine how happy I was when he said yes! It was an amazing experience for me as a person and as a photographer. Spending time with Fer brought something out in me that I’m not sure I knew was there. Trust me when I say that this man is a true artist. The way he pushes himself to CREATE images is mind blowing, inspiring, and if Fer were not such a humble and approachable kind of guy it would be intimidating.

But it wasn’t, not at all. It was eye opening and I have much to think about to determine how I will incorporate what I learned into my own personal aesthetic. During the workshop I spent time observing Fer in action, and then I tried to shoot with my own voice and take shots that were different from what I usually take. Some of those attempts failed, but some of them were okay. In the end I’m encouraged to go out and experiment even more.

Special thanks to Cliff and Malarie for hosting the workshop and to Shanni and Blaine for lending their talents as our models / smoking hot married photographer couple for the day.

  1. These are great, Teresa! I loved attending the Charleston Fershop and spending the day with the fab Fer. I need to revisit some of his teachings now that wedding season is upon us!

  2. I’m so happy for you (and just a wee bit jealous) that you got to work with Fer for a day, your shots are amazing, and it’s such great stuff to hear about workshops that are worth their salt amid all the rough ones out there.

  3. Like Tina Fey would say, “I want to go to there.” Fer is such an inspiration. I can’t wait to meet him. Especially if it can help my photos look like these!

  4. Thanks for the post i was searching for this sort of content. Being a photographer i should have to update myself to keep the pace.
    Best Regards
