It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas

Well it took a little longer than usual this year, but I think I’m FINALLY in the Christmas spirit. For some reason I found myself just kind of going through the motions. Life can just get so chaotic sometimes! This is a month full of a lot of activity for us and for some reason it’s taken me just a little bit too long to realize I wasn’t really enjoying it. It just started to feel like a routine for some reason.

Then something magical happened in the sky. We had a lunar eclipse. A very special one because it’s been like, 372 years since a total eclipse of a full moon happened on the winter solstice.

And it was amazing.

I laid outside bundled up on our deck, with my tripod next to me, staring up at the sky at 2 o’clock in the morning, watching this once in a lifetime event, clicking my shutter every once in a while for good measure and I really started to try and put things into perspective.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the rush of the holiday season and not take time to enjoy it for what it really is. It’s a time of year to enjoy family, friends, and to share your blessings. It’s a time to reflect on the gift that GOD gave through his son Jesus. This year has been full of love and happiness and some heartache too, but that is the joy of living. Without downs, how could we ever really appreciate the ups?

There is so much in this world I do not understand, and that’s okay. We don’t have to have all the answers. But there are some things that I do know more than anything else. I love my family, I love my life, and I’m a very blessed person. There are people in this world without food or shelter or who do not understand the concept of unconditional love. I have all of those things….all of them and so much more.

I decided to post these images of our beautiful children at each of their holiday programs, the traditional portraits we take in front of the Christmas tree every year, and of course, that little event that happened in the sky this week. Because sharing my photographs with you makes me happy.

  1. I love it when photographers write more about their lives and who they are 🙂 It makes everything seem more inviting! Your kids are so cute. How much fun to see them in their respective shows at school!
