I strongly believe that when you are meant to be with someone, you will eventually be together regardless of time and distance. This holds true for Serena and Eric. Their paths crossed in high school and while they were friends, it wasn’t the right time for a relationship. And so they went their separate ways to college (Eric at UC Davis and Serena at UC San Diego). It wasn’t until their last year of undergrad studies that they started dating.
During this time, they were still pursuing their careers; but, they knew their partnership was something special and held on to each other as school continued. Serena, a California native, headed to the colder climate of the Northeast to work in Philadelphia and pursue her MBA; Eric also made the leap to Philadelphia to finish his doctorate in optometry.
I think there is something about the cold that draws these two together, although both claim to prefer the warmth of the west coast. It even followed them to their proposal. Eric’s plan to ask at sunset was darkened by a snow storm! And although Eric knew the timing wasn’t what imagined it to be, this time, he knew with his whole heart that it was exactly the right time to ask Serena for her hand in marriage.
And so they came back to California to seal their union as husband and wife, celebrating with both a traditional western ceremony and a traditional tea ceremony in an Arden Hills Sacramento wedding that honored their past, present, and future. It was so beautiful to see two people who are so giving, caring, and committed to each other completely uplifted by their friends and family.
We were all surrounded by a beautiful whirlwind of emotion. It was a day where a California princess and her sneaker king prince rode away happily ever after into the snow knowing that wherever life takes them it doesn’t matter, as long as they are together.
