When I get couples who share a love for adventure, my photographer’s heart sings. I always love an opportunity to venture out and see what inspiration nature will provide. Of course, it never disappoints. Rachel and Cody just got engaged, and they wanted some portraits to display and share, but also a collection of photos that really shows off their fun side – candid shots that display their personality as a couple. They decided to go with two different looks: some rustic, laid-back photos shot in the majestic redwoods and some more formal, classic photos on the shore of Lake Merritt. Rachel and Cody are so photogenic and natural in front of the camera. Stunning photos of these two were not hard to come by. Since it can get dark fast in the woods, we started off the session at Roberts Park. The tall redwoods gave the photos such an intimate feel. I really like the photos taken between the trees that captured their sweet moments together. Cody knows just what to say to make Rachel laugh, and when she’s with him, she doesn’t hold back. Together, they explored the trails, tiptoed across fallen logs, and took in all of the natural beauty around them. Then, right before sunset, we headed over to Lake Merritt (which is conveniently close to their house). It was such a gorgeous, clear day, and it was fun to have the downtown buildings in the background. I can’t imagine anything more romantic than seeing these two share a moment on a park bench as the sun went down over the water, casting a soft glow across the backdrop. Beautiful! Rachel and Cody are just the sweetest, and if you think their engagement session was amazing, wait until I show you their Bear Valley wedding that happened this August…coming soon!
