Not too many brides expect rain for their June weddings in Sacramento. I know Fernando and Rachel didn’t plan for it, but you know what, that rain ending up being part of what made their day special and uniquely theirs. It was cold and rainy all morning, but it didn’t dampen either of these lovebirds excitement to be married.
You may remember Rachel and Fernando from their engagement session in Amador County (you can see that post here). Fernando is doing his residency in North Carolina, while Rachel has been a busy girl here in Sacramento graduating from college, planning a wedding, and getting ready to move out of state. You can only imagine the excitement they both shared wanting to start their lives together as soon as possible. So of course a little rain didn’t diminish any of that glow from either one of these two lovelies.
Fernando spent the morning at the Sheraton Grand Hotel getting ready with his guys, while Rachel was at her family home. Both were surrounded by so much love and support it was practically tangible. I know it was bittersweet for Rachel’s friends and family to say goodbye to her, but when you see Rachel with Fernando, you just know it’s right.
Their wedding was at the always beautiful Saint Mary’s Church here in Sacramento. It’s such an amazing place and their ceremony was laced with love and tradition. There were so many people there to support them, including many of Fernando’s relatives from Guatemala.
After the ceremony we did a few umbrella pictures to mark the rain, and headed to the reception at the Sacramento Grand Ballroom. The venue is managed by Event Architects here in Sacramento and let me just tell you…it is amazing. The building was originally the National Bank of D.O. Mills and Company, but has been converted into an event center. There is so much character in the building and the light…probably some of the best I’ve ever shot an indoor reception with.
I can’t express enough to Rachel, Fernando, and their families what a privilege it was to witness the joining of their families and the start of their lives together.
But sometimes pictures are better than words…

BEAUTIFUL! These are some of the best church ceremony shots I’ve seen recently, and I really, really love the tall shots of the dancing that show off the height of the venue. Also, way to rock the portraits in the rain!
